Spitfires Match Report
November 12th 2011 at Paddock Wood FC
Tenterden 2 Spitfires 0
Paddock Wood 1 Spitfires 1
A few changes this week saw Xander and Harrison join up with the Spitfires from the Monsters, and new arrival Dan making his debut. We tried
a few new formations too, although at one stage it did look like 5 people were playing in right midfield.
Really not quite sure how we didn’t win one of these matches. Tenterden got off to a good start as we settled down, but really – after the first few minutes, we dominated both matches. Dan dribbled like a professional, Xander sprinted through the midfield, Joachim, Fred and Harrison
peppered the opposition goalkeepers with shots, and there was some lovely passing too. Top marks also to Jack and Luke who were, at different times, our only defender, as we experimented with 1 – 3 – 1. We were all over Tenterden in the final minutes but just couldn’t get the ball in the net. In the second game, Dan scored his first Spitfires goal just before half-time, but in practically their only attack, PW equalised in the second half.
Thanks all – really well done !
Langton Green Spitfires 1 – 3 Paddock Wood
Paddock Wood got off to a quick start, getting a couple of goals. It certainly appeared like they have had some games pre season. Some great midfield play by Luke kept the score-line respectable and inspired the team. The boys grew with confidence as the game went on. The second half of the game we won 1 – 0 with a cracking strike from Joachim after some lovely one touch football by Oliver B and Fred. Luke made some vital saves in the second half and some huge tackles were made by Oliver S. By the end it was clear the boys were finding their stride in the torrential rain.
Langton Green Spitfires 0 – 5 Tenterden
Do not be fooled by the score line as this was another close game. It was 0 – 0 until the last 5 minutes. In the first half Jack shot just wide after a lovely mazy run. Fred played in goal, closing the angles at exactly the right time and making some lovely saves. Toby marshalled in a defensive role in the first half and he did this excellently. In the second half we continued the pressure and it looked like we were going to nick a winner. However, they got one against the run of play and as we threw everything forward they scored some late goals. The manager and parents were all very proud after the first couple of games and we all commented on what a great effort there was and how our first win cannot be far away.
