Courses

The club invests an increasing sum of money each year on courses and obtaining certain ‘clearances’, that are deemed mandatory/desirable by the Sports Governing Bodies and/or in accordance with club policy.

This is designed to:

• Reassure parents that their child can pursue an activity within a safe, environment at all times

• Encourage individual development, both in a sports proficiency and personal context.

• Encourage a positive reciprocal interaction between adult and junior members.

The majority of courses/clearances are adult based or have a minimum age stipulation imposed by the relevant Sports Governing Body.

Every effort is made to arrange for courses to be held at a local venue, subject to satisfying the minimum attendance criteria stipulated by the course instructors. Where necessary, representatives from other clubs/associations are invited to ensure minimum is met.

All adults having regular, unsupervised contact with junior members (under 18 years of age), must have attended a Child Protection Workshop and have a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) clearance certificate. An Emergency Aid Certificate or equivalent is also desirable.

The club Welfare Officer is the only person authorised to conduct CRB checks, to ensure confidentiality is strictly observed at all times.

The Child Protection and Emergency Aid workshops are both 1 session only in the evening. These workshops may be inherent to other course criteria, e.g. coaching qualifications, in which event; there is no need for replication.

The time involvement needed to attain other course qualifications and renewal, is sport, course level dependent.

Course/clearance requirements for an individual is determined by completion of a questionnaire that identifies:

• The course being applied for

• Whether specific or multiple sports based

• Any relevant current qualifications/clearances that they possess

Individuals will be notified directly of relevant course dates.

The club keeps a record of the course qualifications and clearances, together with respective renewal dates, for each individual. The latter will be given advance notice of any pending renewal.
