The club was founded in 1972 to provide football and gymnastics for the local children. Initially, this was administered by parents and active members at that time. Over the years, the club has expanded to serve the needs of a much wider area and continues to thrive in terms of membership and activities provided.
The club philosophy is best described as:
‘The creation of a non-elitist organisation, open to all youngsters/adults (irrespective of colour, creed, disability, family financial standing) and aimed at providing members with the opportunity to derive enjoyment and to encourage personal development (code of behaviour, individual/communal responsibilities, etc), through participation in sport’.
- The club prides itself on creating a ‘happy family orientated environment’ and not where the emphasis is placed solely on results (i.e. winning at all costs).
- The club, therefore has the responsibility to not only encourage development of individual/team skills but also to ensure members conduct themselves in a sporting and responsible manner, at all times.
- The club has had conspicuous success since its inception not only in the competitive sense, but more importantly, in creating an image that is greatly admired over a wide area. The club is justifiably proud of these achievements, which perhaps represents the corner stone for the on-going growth in membership.
- The club continually strives to build on the ‘success’ particularly in seeking to satisfy the volatile demands improved by today’s younger generation.
- The achievements and future aims could not be achieved without the encouragement and support of the Speldhurst council and the generosity of an increasing number of sponsors.
The club is based at the Langton Green Rec , which it leases from the Speldhurst Council and Ashurst Place Residential Home. However demand for match venues and training facilities can now only be satisfied through hire at an increasing number of locations within/outside the Tunbridge Wells area.
